How do I link my MTD software to HMRC?
Last verified 23 October 2026
In your software, choose the option to connect with HMRC. Sign in with the user ID and password you used to sign up for Making Tax Digital for Income Tax, complete the identity check if asked, then give the software permission to connect.
HMRC calls this authorising your software, and you should do it before you start creating digital records. You must repeat the steps every 18 months. Your software should remind you when it is time to reconnect, and sole traders and landlords do not need to repeat the identity check.
Agents follow the same steps but sign in with their firm's agent services account. While you set up, check your update periods. Software uses periods that match the tax year, 6 April to 5 April, by default. If your accounting period runs from 1 April to 31 March, choose calendar periods before you send your first quarterly update, because you cannot change them afterwards.
In VoxaMTD, you can import a CSV or Excel file, or connect your bank with open banking.
