What is Government Gateway?
Government Gateway is the sign in system for HMRC online services. Landlords use it to manage Self Assessment, sign up for Making Tax Digital and give software permission to send updates.
Why it matters to landlords
When you connect MTD software to HMRC you are sent to an HMRC page to sign in with your Government Gateway user ID and grant access. Good software never asks you for that password directly.
You can remove a software connection from your HMRC account at any time. If you have lost your user ID, HMRC can help you recover it online.
