VoxaMTD's free plan sends quarterly updates for self-employment and UK property income directly to HMRC's live Making Tax Digital service, with no bank you have to hold. The year-end final declaration is coming before April 2027, in time for the 2026 to 2027 tax year (first due 31 January 2028). Alex, its AI accountant you can talk to by voice, is on the paid plans.
It does not yet cover foreign property, calendar update periods or VAT, where Xero, FreeAgent, QuickBooks or Sage may suit you better.

Yes. HMRC's software finder listed 36 products with a free version on 27 September 2026, including Sage Sole Trader & Landlord Free and Clear Books Free. FreeAgent is free with NatWest, RBS, Ulster Bank or Mettle accounts. VoxaMTD's free plan sends quarterly updates, and its year-end final declaration is coming before April 2027, in time for the 2026 to 2027 tax year (first due 31 January 2028).
How does VoxaMTD compare to FreeAgent?
FreeAgent is free with a NatWest, RBS or Ulster Bank business account or a Mettle account used monthly; otherwise its landlord plan is £10 and its sole trader plan £19 a month plus VAT. Its bank feeds work with all major UK banks, and it is listed in HMRC's software finder. VoxaMTD is free without a bank condition.
Is Xero good for Making Tax Digital?
Xero's Simple plan, £7 a month plus VAT, covers MTD for Income Tax, it is listed in HMRC's software finder including for foreign property, and it offers JAX, an AI chat assistant. VoxaMTD's free plan files without a subscription. Alex, its AI accountant you can talk to by voice, is on the paid plans.
How does VoxaMTD compare to QuickBooks?
QuickBooks has no free plan. Sole Trader Plus, £10 a month plus VAT, covers sole traders and single-property landlords, and several properties need Plus at £56. QuickBooks lists AI categorisation and an AI chat feature in beta. VoxaMTD's free plan covers several UK properties and sole trader income.
Does VoxaMTD work for landlords?
Yes. VoxaMTD covers UK property income with per-property figures, ownership shares for jointly owned property and a Section 24 calculator, and filing is free. It does not yet cover foreign property.
Which MTD software covers foreign property?
