Can I change my MTD software?
Last verified 23 October 2026
Yes. HMRC says you can change software at any time, although the end of a tax year may be easier. You can also use different software that works with Making Tax Digital for different income sources.
If you change after a tax year ends, store and secure your old records. You do not need to import them into the new software. If you change during a tax year, either import your records into the new software or recreate them there. If you use bridging software, link the new product to your record keeping and remove the old link.
Keep digital records for at least five years from the submission deadline for each tax year. Records for 2026 to 2027 must be kept until at least 31 January 2033, so you may need to export them from your old software. You will also need to connect the new software to HMRC by signing in with your HMRC details and giving it permission.
In VoxaMTD, you can import a CSV or Excel file, or connect your bank with open banking.
